It’s that time of year again. It’s the travel holiday! Thanksgiving brings families together in a way that no other holiday does. It’s not the gift-giving frenzy of Christmas or the cook-out-fireworks event that is Independence Day.
Instead, Thanksgiving is a time to gather together and give thanks—thanks for simple pleasures; thanks for basic needs; thanks for friends; and thanks for family. It’s a time to re-prioritize and realize what’s most important—to celebrate the lives of family members lost and appreciate those that are left.
As Charles Dickens said, “Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”
Even if Thanksgiving is a bitter-sweet holiday for you, there is always consolation to be found in the traditional comfort food of the holiday. The turkey, deep fried, smoked, or roasted; the mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole; along with green beans and cornbread dressing with enough for leftovers make the holiday complete. And don’t forget the desserts.
Whether you are traveling or if your home is the destination for family this year, Calyx wishes you a safe and fulfilling Thanksgiving.
