Today is Good Friday! And in two days, it will finally be Easter Sunday! Beyond the significance of the holiday that we all already know, Easter represents a few other symbolic events in many of our daily lives.
For those of us in a certain generation, Easter means we can wear white again. Many of you won’t understand this, but for as long as I can remember, white was only worn between Easter and Labor Day, especially white shoes. That’s why you can typically only find off-white and beige clothing and shoes during the winter months and the new season’s white shoes are promoted with Easter dresses. I don’t think that’s a rule that is still taught but please correct me if I’m wrong.
Easter also means the impending close of spring and the gradual move to summer, which also means the long break from school. For many of us, it’s the start of vacation planning with the family. This is one of the few holidays in the year that makes me nostalgic while at the same time makes me hopeful for the next season to come.
What about you? Does Easter hold any special memories for you?
