It’s Mardi Gras! Today is the day of overindulgence that ends the party of Carnival and serves as a prelude for fasting and moderation of Lent.
Probably the most popular symbol of Mards Gras is the Throw. Throws are the beads and trinkets that the Krewes toss to parade audiences. These items are a huge business for manufactures as Krewes seek to re-energize their stash every year. They go bigger, brighter, try different materials, and venture into non-traditional items such as cosmetics and plush toys.
It’s a multi-million dollar industry that represents 8 million pounds of plastic imported for just one dealer. It’s crazy.
Have you been to the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans? What is your favorite throw?
